Every Day Wear
Troy Oviedo
"There are many more stories that I just can’t fit, and many more items that I could go on & on about. But these here, are some of my forever favorites."
Belt Buckle:
This buckle is one that I will never replace or take off. I don’t plan to ever make myself a buckle either, this will be the one. This was made by my mentor & great friend, Jesse Robbins. It is everything I love about what we do, all in one piece, made by the person who has taught me the most valuable lessons in life, & in jewelry.
Cuffs:
The no stone cuff is my first ever repousse bracelet I’ve made with the guidance of my mentor Jesse Robbins. Can never sell the first of something.
The other cuff is my favorite design I make. Hand stamped radiating lines coming out of a Gem Grade piece of lone mountain turquoise. Ever since I made my first one, I knew I needed to make one for myself, so I finally did.
Rings:
The gold ring is priceless. It was a gift from my grandfather, who is also my best friend and inspiration. He still lives with my family now, and examines every pieces of jewelry I create before I send it off into the world. He wore this ring his entire life, and lost it 4 times, but it kept coming back to him. I love to look at old photos oh him & my grandmother, and in every picture, his one piece of jewelry has always been this ring. On my 18th birthday, he gifted me it because he knew how much I loved it. My grandfather bought this ring from a pawn shop in the 60’s. It is 14 carat gold with a black sapphire and two small diamonds on the sides of it that my grandmother set into the ring herself. The rope silver ring is one that I made as a set to match the ring & cuff that I made my lovely girlfriend. Just plain stamped ropes with no stone, one that we both wear together.
Necklace:
I’ve always loved heishi necklaces and this one I just recently got. It was made by a talented friend of mine Cheyenne Grabiec. We did a trade. I made him a row bracelet with his favorite stones, and he made my brother and I matching necklaces with natural material. Number 8 turquoise, with a few pieces of South African Sugilite placed in the mix. A piece I never take off.
The Truck & the bench seat:
This truck has seen a lot of life before me. The first ever owner of this 04’ Tundra was Jock Favour. Jocks a wild & good friend of the Prescott crew that I am a part of. He is the mentor of my mentor Jesse. Jock drove this truck all over the country until selling it to Jesse’s mom, Pam Robbins. Recently, I was driving my old ford ranger and saw my dream car in Pam’s driveway, and she said it was for sale. So I quickly drove back to California, sold my ranger, and got a flight out to Prescott the following week to buy this iconic truck. It even has some classic dents on the side, a clear sign that jock had been here. The rug is also special, I sit on it everyday now. I prefer the old ones that have been eaten a bit by moths. This one has just the right amount of bites. It was a beauty that was for sale here on poquitos website for a little bit that we all fell in love with. I was lucky enough to snag it as my own, and now I sit on it for the long drives from CA to AZ.
CD’s: My CD collection arguably has more stories than my jewelry collection, but a short way of describing it is that my last two old trucks only took CD’s, so now I just keep this book joining me long for every ride. If you ever sit passenger in my truck, you’ll have to be in charge of flipping through it for us.
